Privacy Policy

Holiday Hours is built on a simple principle: your calculations belong to you. The tools run in your browser and your inputs are never sent to us. This policy explains what that means, and how cookies, advertising and analytics work on the site.

The short version: Everything you type into a calculator stays in your browser — we never see it. We don't run user accounts. We do show ads (Google AdSense) to keep the tools free, and in the UK/EEA you're asked for consent before any personalised advertising cookies are used. Our analytics are cookieless.

Who we are

"Holiday Hours" (this site, holidayhours.co.uk) is the data controller for the limited processing described below. You can reach us any time via our contact page.

Your calculator inputs

We do not collect them. When you use a calculator, all computation happens inside your browser using JavaScript. Your inputs — employment type, hours, leave days, dates — are never transmitted to our servers.

Your browser's localStorage is used to save your session so you can return to a partially completed calculation. This data never leaves your device, cannot be read by other websites, and is never sent to a server. You can clear it any time via "Start again" on a calculator, or by clearing site data for holidayhours.co.uk. localStorage is not a cookie.

Cookies & similar technologies

Holiday Hours itself sets no tracking cookies. Cookies on this site come from two areas:

  • Advertising (Google AdSense) — Google and its advertising partners may set and read cookies (and similar identifiers) to serve and measure ads. In the UK, EEA and Switzerland these are only used for personalised advertising if you give consent (see below).
  • Strictly necessary — a small amount of local storage used to remember your light/dark theme preference and your consent choice. These are essential to how the site works and carry no tracking function.

Advertising

Holiday Hours is free to use. To cover the cost of building and hosting it, we display ads served by Google AdSense. As a third-party vendor, Google uses cookies and device identifiers to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.

We do not sell your personal data. Where you decline consent for personalised ads, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for frequency capping, aggregate reporting and fraud/abuse protection — not to build a profile of you.

Your consent choices (UK, EEA & Switzerland)

If you're visiting from the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, we present a consent management platform (CMP) — a Google-certified consent tool that works with the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework — before personalised advertising cookies are set. You can:

  • Accept or reject personalised advertising and the associated cookies;
  • review the advertising partners and purposes involved; and
  • change your choice at any time by reopening the consent options from the "Privacy & ad settings" (or cookie) link shown on the site.

Analytics

We use Umami Analytics, a privacy-first, open-source platform, on our own self-hosted instance. Umami:

  • Does not use cookies
  • Does not collect personal identifiers (no IP address stored, no fingerprinting)
  • Collects only aggregate page-view counts and referrer data
  • Is not shared with Umami Inc. or any third party

We use this anonymous aggregate data only to understand which calculators are most useful and to prioritise improvements.

Shareable links

When you use a "Share Results" button, your calculator inputs are encoded into the URL as a compressed string. This contains only the numbers and selections you entered — no name, email, or identifying information. Sharing the link is entirely optional.

If you send us a message via our contact form, we use the name, email address and message you provide solely to respond to your enquiry. We don't use it for marketing and we don't share it.

Your rights

We hold no calculator data and no user accounts, so there is generally nothing for us to access, correct or delete.
